Navarro Vineyards is one of our favorite wineries to visit and is on our list of Top Ten Wineries to visit in the California wine country.

Navarro Vineyards is located in the bucolic countryside of the Anderson Valley in Mendocino County. Navarro has been making wine in the Anderson Valley since 1974. There is so much to like about this winery. The wines have always been good and top rated among the wine critics for years and years. Navarro Vineyards produces Alastian-style wines: Gerwurztraminer, Riesling and Pinot Gris. They make two delicious Pinot Noir wines and some delectable Chardonnays. All their wines are priced reasonably, offering the wine consumer considerable value. For example, the delicious Anderson Valley Pinot Noir is only $18, their flagship Pinot, Méthode à l’Ancienne is $28 and could easily sell for more. All the wines from their estate vineyards are organically farmed.

Tasting fees are non-existent. You can try any wine they have open, which on most days is at least eight. Can you find this in the Napa Valley?

The setting in the tasting room at Navarro Vineyards is spectacular. There are wonderful vineyard views, with a backdrop of the mountains dotted with oak trees. There are picnic tables in front of the vineyards and a few others scattered in the gardens. It is one of the most serene settings for a wine country picnic. There is no cell service in this area of the Anderson Valley, but Navarro Vineyards likes to take care of its visitors and provides a wifi hot spot free of charge. How nice is that?

There are a couple of very good delis in Boonville and we always stop and pick up our lunch before heading to the Navarro tasting room. We are usually torn between the Gerwurtz and the Pinot Gris for our lunch wine. You won’t find any Navarro wines in wine shops or supermarkets, but several restaurants in the Bay Area carry Navarro wines. Navarro Vineyards wines are sold only at the winery or online. The winery has a very large following of loyal customers and visitors.

Nearby are some of our other favorite wineries. Husch has the cutest and smallest tasting room and Handley Cellars has famed winemaker Milla Handley. There is lodging in Boonville and Philo, but we always head 40 miuntes west to stay in the romantic town of Mendocino. It does not get much better than spending a couple of nights in Mendocino. My next post will be all about this charming town.
